DIY: Father's Day Gift Bag

Father’s Day is the perfect time to show a little extra love, and what better way than with a handmade touch? If you’re looking to add a bit of “wow” to your Father’s Day gift without a last-minute trip to the store, this DIY gift bag is just the thing. Using items you’re likely to already have on hand, you can present your gift in a way that’s as thoughtful as it is adorable. Whether you’re gifting gadgets or something from the heart, this project turns your present into something truly personal.

What You’ll Need:

  • Paper Shopping Bag (this is the one we used)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick or Glue Dots
  • Ribbon
  • Tissue Paper (optional)
  • And don’t forget your heartfelt gift!

Step One

Lay your paper shopping bag on a flat surface. Using your ruler and pencil, measure and mark 2 inches from the top of the bag on the left and right sides. With your scissors, make a cut into each side of the bag until you reach the bag handles, about 2.5 inches.

Step Two

Pull out the sides at the top of the bag. It should resemble an uppercase T. These make up the “collar” of the shirt. Next, gently pull out the sides of the bag just below the collar until it makes a triangle and crease the sides. These are the “sleeves” of the shirt.

Step Three

Add your gift and tissue to the bag (click here for our new Lemon print tissue paper!).

Step Four

Take your ribbon and wrap it around the bag, tucking it into the cuts you made for the collar. The ribbon should be at least as long as the height of your bag. Trim if needed. Then, tie your preferred tie knot (we went with the Half Windsor).

Step Five

One side at a time, fold and crease the collar of the shirt so that only the top corners of each side touch. Make sure your tie is tucked under the collar before affixing the edges with a glue stick or glue dots. Lastly, cut the end of your tie to create a point, and ta-da!

Sometimes, it’s the little touches that make the biggest impression, and this DIY Father’s Day gift bag is proof of that. With just a paper shopper, some scissors, and a little creativity, you can turn a simple gift into something memorable. So go ahead, repurpose that takeout bag!
